Jean-Philippe Pignol is an MD specialist in radiation oncology with a PhD in nuclear physics. In 2000 he joined the University of Toronto and became a full professor starting 2008 at the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Medical Biophysics and at the Institute of Medical Sciences. Since August 2014 he is Professor and Chair of the department of Radiation Oncolog at Erasmus MC Cancer Institute in Rotterdam, with a cross appointment at TU Delft, The Netherlands.His research focuses on the improvement of breast cancer treatments, reducing side effects and increasing treatment efficiency. The research spans from physics computer simulations, to cell culture in the laboratory and finally to clinical trials, with a specific focus on highly conformal, single fraction, real time image guided radiation intervention, called Cancer Ablation Therapy (CAT). His research has been supported by more than $14M in fundings. He also has published over 100 articles in international journals and book chapters.
