Philip Sawyer

Philip Sawyer is General Partner of Helix Ventures. Philip Sawyer co-founded Helix Ventures in 2008 and has over 20 years of entrepreneurial， operating and investment experience. In 1993， he was a co-founder （with Gordon Russell， formerly a General Partner for 20 years of Sequoia Capital） of Fusion Medical， a medical device company that was incubated at AMC. He also held the position of President and CEO of Fusion for nine years， guiding the company through many stages of growth， including two private financings， an IPO in 1996 （“FSON”）， four PIPEs， and ultimately acquisition by Baxter International in 2002. Under his leadership， the company built a first-rate management team and developed FloSealTM， a best-in-class surgical sealant that today is a very sizeable business.

Earlier in his career， he worked at Stryker Endoscopy in product management and business development. He also worked at Amgen in marketing. Prior to that， he worked at Alan Patricof Associates， a venture capital and private equity firm （now APAX）， where he sourced and evaluated investment opportunities in a variety of industries.

Philip received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1991 and a B.A. in Political Science from Haverford College in 1986. He is a member of the Presidential Advisory Board at Haverford. He is also a trustee of the American Museum of Fly Fishing.
