Kent C. McCarthy received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting in 1980 and his master’s degree in 1981 from the KU School of Business. He began working at Peat, Marwick & Mitchell in Kansas City where he earned his CPA. In 1984, Kent received his Master in Business Administration from Stanford University.

Beginning in 1984, Kent spent ten years with Goldman Sachs in New York and San Francisco where he was the top producer in The Goldman Sachs Private Client Services Division. Kent also served on the Stone Street Investment Committee, which oversaw Goldman Sachs private equity investments.

Kent retired from Goldman Sachs in 1994, returning to Kansas. He established the Applied Portfolio Management class at the KU School of Business. Kent began teaching the APM class and was awarded the Henry Bubb Award for outstanding teacher at the School of Business. In 1999, Kent began teaching an MBA program at KU’s Asolo, Italy campus.

Between 1995 and 1997, Kent started three aggressive equity hedge funds: Jayhawk Institutional Partners, LP; Jayhawk Investments, LP; and the Jayhawk China Fund (Cayman), Ltd. In 2003, Primarius Focus, LP retained Kent to serve as research analyst and advisor to assist the Portfolio Manager.
