Joe Skrzynski is the Co-Founder of CHAMP and its predecessor, Australian Mezzanine Investment Pty Limited (AMIL), established in 1987. Prior to that, Mr Skrzynski had been involved in the funding and management of venture projects in both the private and public sectors. Mr Skrzynski’s career spans merchant banking, private and public sector corporate management and private sector funds management.
Mr Skrzynski first became involved with private equity in 1970 when he was appointed to manage a pool of private investments for a wealthy industrialist. This pool included successful investment across all stages of private equity including seed capital, expansion capital and a management buy in privatisation of a public company. He is involved in all aspects of fundraising, investor relations, compliance and risk management, deal flow, due diligence, investment and debt negotiations, investment management and monitoring and exit phases of the investments of the CHAMP Funds, and the AMIT Funds previously. He is a member of the Board of Directors, the Investment Committee and the Remuneration Committee of the CHAMP Group.
Mr Skrzynski graduated with Honours from the Faculty of Economics, University of Sydney in 1969, was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993, and in 2008 became an Officer in the Order of Australia. He has had numerous portfolio company directorships since 1987, including post IPO public company directorships in Australia and Singapore, on behalf of the AMIT and CHAMP Funds. Mr Skrzynski has been active in the industry association, being a foundation board member and President of the Australian Venture Capital Association. Mr Skrzynski’s contribution to the industry has been honoured with the Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Australian and the Asian Venture Capital Associations, respectively, Awards jointly shared with Bill Ferris.
